Our History Serving the Catholic Priesthood
We’re building a culture that’s open to the priesthood, clearing the path to discovery, and unlocking hearts and minds to God’s call.
Vocation Boom is a non-profit initiative that is the fruit of more than twenty years of prayer and deliberation. It grew out of a vision which began to take shape in the heart of Jerry Usher while he spent time in priestly formation from 1989 to 1995. In 2009, shortly before Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed The Year for Priests, he gathered a team of colleagues and created the Vocation Boom website, which launched on September 14 of that year – The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
In February 2011, Vocation Boom Radio debuted on the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network. The show airs Saturdays at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, 2:00 PM Pacific Time. It features cardinals, bishops, priests, deacons, and laypeople, all of whom share our passion for promoting vocations to the priesthood.
Vocation Boom’s weekly TV show can be seen on EWTN three times a week. It airs Sundays at 11am, Tuesdays at 2:30am, Thursdays at 5:30pm (all times Eastern). Be sure to tune in or set your DVR to watch it at a more convenient time.
We’ve also talked with many vocation directors and seminary rectors about creating events “on location.” We hope to gather young men (and their families) for a day of inspiring talks by seminarians and young priests, a live radio broadcast, and more.
We ask that you prayerfully consider helping us with this important work. At Vocation Boom, it is our belief that after the life and family issues – marriage, family life, abortion, euthanasia, and so on – there is nothing more important that Catholics can engage in than the cultivation of priestly vocations.
Thanks for visiting our site. It is our prayer that you find many helpful resources for your own discernment or for assisting someone you know who is considering the priesthood.
God bless you.
