Standard published pricing only. Large businesses can negotiate custom or interchange-plus pricing, and some providers charge extra for manually entered cards, American Express, disputes or instant payouts. A dash means the provider publishes no rate for that case on the page we used. Adyen is listed in the table below but not in the calculator, because its card pricing is interchange plus a markup, and interchange varies by card. How card processing fees work

Most online payment providers charge a percentage of the payment plus a fixed amount per transaction. On a small payment the fixed part dominates: at 2.9% + 30¢, a $5 sale costs 44.5¢, almost 9%, while a $500 sale costs $14.80, just under 3%. Cards issued abroad usually cost more, and converting currencies adds another percentage on top. That is why the cheapest provider for one business can be the most expensive for another.

What does Stripe charge per transaction?

In the United States, Stripe's standard price for a domestic online card payment is 2.9% + 30¢, with 1.5% more for international cards and 1% more if currency conversion is needed. In the UK it is 1.5% + 20p for standard UK cards and 2.8% + 20p for premium UK cards.

What does PayPal charge a merchant?

In the United States, PayPal Checkout costs 3.49% + $0.49 per domestic transaction, and 1.50% more for international payments. Businesses approved for Advanced Credit and Debit Card payments pay 2.89% + $0.29 on card payments.

Which payment processor is cheapest?
