Blockstream introduced Jade Core on April 28, adding a hardware wallet focused on simpler Bitcoin self-custody to its Jade range. The company lists guided setup, Bluetooth pairing and integration with its desktop and mobile app. Transactions are signed on the device, with private keys kept separate from the connected online environment.
The product announcement emphasizes a clearer display for reviewing transactions and an open-source hardware and firmware foundation. The company presents the device as an easier entry point to the same security approach used across its Jade range.
The device separates signing from the connected app
A hardware wallet gives the user a dedicated place to approve a transaction. The app can prepare the request and communicate with the network while the device performs the signing operation.
That division is useful only when the person approving the request checks the information shown on the device. A convenient connection to a phone or computer does not remove the need to confirm that a transaction matches the intended destination and amount.
Blockstream says Jade Core keeps signing offline even though Bluetooth is available for pairing. In that description, offline signing refers to the isolation of the signing process and private keys; it should not be confused with a claim that the device has no communication features.
Setup includes authenticity checks
The release lists built-in device authenticity checks and Blockstream’s Blind Oracle PIN protection among the security features. It also describes guided onboarding through the Blockstream app across desktop, iOS and Android.
Simpler setup can help people reach a working wallet, but recovery remains a separate part of taking control of funds. A user moving away from an exchange becomes responsible for preserving the information needed to recover access and for understanding the wallet’s recovery process.
The announcement does not provide comparative test results showing how Jade Core performs against other hardware wallets. Its clearest news is the expansion of the product range around a more accessible interface and the existing Jade security approach.
